Struggle Against Kenya's Drought 2
Most of the patients John sees are pastoralists. These roaming communities are constantly in search of water and pasture, both increasingly scarce as the effects of drought, rocketing food prices and poverty take hold. As a result, pastoralist migration patterns are changing, making it far harder for communities to access health care. A lack of funding for Turkana is also taking effect, leaving clinics like John’s woefully under-stocked, understaffed and unable to continue providing basic health services.
