The top three common diseases in Turkana district are malaria, diseases of respiratory system, and diarrhoea. However, as a result of the deepening drought and shortages of safe water, the district has also seen a sharp rise in diarrhoea as children are forced to drink whatever water they can find, as well as skin diseases and eye and ear infections. Meagre medical supplies must suffice for the 40 patients John can see on a busy day.
