The top three common diseases in Turkana district are malaria, diseases of respiratory system, and diarrhoea. However, as a result of the deepening drought and shortages of safe water, the district has also seen a sharp rise in diarrhoea as children are forced to drink whatever water they can find, as well as skin diseases and eye and ear infections.
